The Backgammon Board

Kevin recently crafted a backgammon board out of Macassar Ebony.

Measuring 14-7/8" long x 14-1/16" wide x 3" high this piece is made of 2 half shells that pivot open by means of inlaid SOSS hinges.

The board inlays are Cherry and Curly Birds Eye Maple veneer, and the exterior corner beads are solid 1/4" x 1/4" Cherry.

The game pieces are crafted from dyed Olivewood.

Kevin made his first backgammon board in the summer of 2009, while he was still learning the techniques of marquetry and inlay. After watching him work on this particular piece it's obvious to me that his experience and talent levels have both advanced significantly.

This Backgammon Board is numbered 2011-#002
